Contact Sheet
I picked these photos because the lighting was good and the light was hitting the side of his face which gave some contrast and tone on his face which could help the editing, also i picked these two because they were well framed and would fit well on my magazine design, and i would not have to fidget around trying to align him and get him in the right place.

Stencil spray
This is my Final product
Then I created some splats by going round the bits of the spray that splashed out of the stencil, i did this by using the lasso tool and then creating a new layer, and copied the splat across and enlarged it then i created to different colours of them by using the colour overlay.
Then I added the second spray, and changed the levels and the colour overlay of this layer then I multiplied it on the blending options to create a overlap kind of feel with the opacity
Then I went on the layer style, and changed the colour overlay to the colour that I wanted.
Then I changed the levels of the spray by pressing 'cmd L' this allows me to make the black lines darker or lighter by sliding a bar, this makes it easier to darken the line of the stencil spray .
I started of by adding my spray by importing it into photoshop then i used the 'magic want tool' to get rid of the white background on it, then i created a new layer for the background and then I created a white to a grey gradient so the background wasn't plain.

Parody
Parody 1
In this task we had to create a parody of a famous art piece and add new features to it or take a picture which looked similar, for this task i chose Gothic by Grant Wood, and I added jay z and Beyonce face to the picture, i did this by clipping masking there face to the image around the face and used a soft rubber so it looked natural and then i changed the colour balance setting which tweaked the skin tone of the two faces, then I posterized all the layers to make it look like a painting.
Parody 2
This is a parody of the mona lisa, to create this parody I just found the image of Miley Cyrus and i clipping masked her face to it and I Just colour corrected it and posterized it.
Magazine Analysis
Magazine Analysis
Rock Band Magazine Cover
This Magazine front cover works really well as it has a diverse range of colours and fonts, you can tell its about rock just by having a quick glance of it as it is quite bold and has slightly dark dressed people on it, who have tattoos and hats, because this is the rock look, the way the page is layout is good as you have well aligned text down the left side which keeps the front cover neat and gives it a professional look and then you have some text in the middle which is meant to look a bit messy which has the main cover line on it.
Contrast:
On this magazine front cover theres a lot of things that contrast such as the text, as you have large text and small text which makes a professional contrast because the designers have not made the larger text the most important and the smaller text less important so its easy to see what is important, the colours in this front cover contrast as you have got a green and a red title (these 2 colours are complementary colours) this makes the cover catch you eye because the colours make each other stand out more and will make a bold statement on the shelf. another contrast is the white text on the black background as this makes it easier to read the white text from long distances so headlines can catch your eye because you can read the text because its a bright colour on a dark colour, lastly there are vertical and horizontal lines which contrast each other as they both go in different directions this creates a more diverse page as it creates different segments around the page.
Repetition:
There is quite a lot of repetition on this cover, the main thing that is repeated is the fonts and the text size which makes the page look smart as its not loads of different fonts in different sizes all across the page, its just repeated text sizes and fonts smartly placed on the cover, another use of repetition is the yellow/green/red text and boxes, these colours are repeated over the page to make it look sensible and not like something a primary school kid would produce on powerpoint, because if they stick to this colour scheme they will make the cover look smart and it will catch the eyes of the buyers as there are contrasting colours in the colour scheme
Alignment:
There is a fair amount of alignment used in this magazine cover for example the text on the left side is aligned to the left this makes the text easier to follow down when reading, another alignment is with the end of the title and with the bar code.
Proximity:
There is not much space between the text and the main titles which makes the page look quite close together but i think this might draw attention as it looks like there is a lot to read and alot going on in this specific subject.
Overall:
Overall i think this magazine works really well as it is not too neat but not too messy, it catches the eye and it would attract buyers with its repetition in text and its well taken photo makes it look professional as there is no blurry images the masthead looks good and the page has a good colour scheme, but there are some downsides such as the left side is too crowded and there's no space, and the text sizes change and it looks a little bit too over the top.
Rock Band Double Page Spread
The double page spread that i have picked from the rock band magazine is good as it has a big clear picture of the band being described stretched across the 2 pages and in the fold of the page is a gap between 2 of the people featured so it is not cutting out any body’s face, also the page has a good simple layout with a few bits of small written text in the top left corner and a logo or title for the next few pages on the right so there is a lot of space which makes it easier for the viewer to read through.
Contrast:
There is quite a bit of contrast on this double page spread such as the text sizes as there is really small in depth text talking about the band and then there is big text with short snappy headlines about the band, also there is a contrast of this red circle and the photographic image as the white saturated wall makes this red circle stand out on the page, this is done because this is what the next eight pages our about.
Repetition:
The repetition on this page is the font and the text size on the right size is repeated on the left page we’re it sais ‘From: ill….’ this is repeated because this page is already simple and they don't want to make this page look to messy by using different fonts and text sizes.
Alignment:
There is not much alignment on this page there is only the text at the top which has a left alignment down the sentences and then theres the text box which aligns with the bottom left box this is there to keep the page neat.
Proximity:
There is a lot of space in this page it gives the page space to breath and the reader can take in the information easily and they can see what the page is describing to them and know what's going to be on for the next 8 pages.
Overall:
Overall this double page spread works really well as it has a lot of space, with a simple design and its easy to take in what is on the page as you can see everything, the picture and text boxes are well positioned as none of the boxes are covering any of band members faces, and i like how they have kept with the same red colour of the masthead of the front cover.
Classic Music Front cover
The front cover of this magazine is smart and simple, the reason this magazine is quite smart is because the audience for this magazine is mainly older people who are in to classical music, everything on the page is well aligned and in sensible places the picture is well taken and looks clear.
Contrast:
There is quite of lot of contrasts on this front cover, for example you have got the large text and the small text, they use these contrast of sizes to show what the most important headline is (by using the large text) because it will be easy to spot and catch the eye of the reader, and they use the small text for the description of the big text or just less important headlines. another contrast is the white masthead against the dark background they do this so the name of the magazine stands out, so buyers can see where there magazine is.
Repetition:
On this front cover there is repetition used for example you have the repeated text sizes and you have the repeated fonts, the reason they have done this, is to keep it tidy and not just throw in lots of fonts and sizes they want to keep its smart as the buyers will not want words scattered all over the page in different sizes as the reader might lose track of what they're reading, another use of repetition used in this magazine is the ‘BBC’ logo as it appears in the top right and the top left this is done probably, for advertisement or just showing who made it, also repetition is used with three names, they are placed directly underneath each other and they are all the same sizes.
Alignment:
There is a lot of alignment used on this front cover almost all text is aligned and most of the boxes align with something the reason everything is aligned is because of they want to make it look professional, because if they had the writing scattered all over the place it would look bad and unprofessional and would look unattractive on the shelf and readers would just ignore it, but by adding alignment it makes it look well laid out and suitable for the audience.
Proximity:
The proximity used in this magazine is quite small as the writing is all pressed together this is done so they can fit more information on the front as buyers will want to know what is going on in the subject that they are viewing
Overall:
Overall this is good smart, simple and professional it has a plain and simple masthead as the type of audience they are trying attract will not want a big bold red title, and i like how they have information boxes on the front this pin points were a lot of information is.
Classic Magazine Double page spread
The double page spread in the classic music magazine is simple and has a bit of whitespace in it, it also features a picture which takes up just over a quarter of the page, this is a good size for a picture on a double page spread as theres enough space for writing and a title, the page consists two colours that (not including picture) that is white and black they use these colours to keep it simple and easily readable.
Contrast:
The contrasts in the double page spread are the large and small text which are used to show importance as the large texts will be used for the main cover line and the small text is used to describe this in more depth, another contrast is the black text on the white background, this is done so the page is easier to read, because its a dark colour on a bright colour so it stands out better and it looks bolder.
Repetition:
There is not much repetition used on this page as it is quite simple, the only repetition there is, is the fonts which are repeated to keep the page professional and not messy and all over the place with different fonts everywhere.
Alignment:
There is a lot of alignment used on the text mostly all the text is aligned to the right, this is like this so longer sentences don't push out of the page because this would make the page look messy, another alignment is the edge of the picture lines up with the text so the page looks well laid out.
Proximity:
There is no proximity used on this page.
Overall:
Overall this double page spread has a simple look with a lot of whitespace this makes the page easy to read and easy to navigate round and find what you're looking for, and i like the smart colour scheme as it makes the text bold and makes the page look professional.

Magazine Research
For this task we had to research magazine front covers, we had to go on pinterest and make a board called covers and look for examples of covers that focus on the same subject, that you chose and we also had to go and find examples of magazines in shops and get photos of them.

Business card remake
Original Business Card.
This business card is really bad, because it has too many different alignments which makes the page look messy, and all over the place, also there are to many conflicting texts, which means the 4 fonts used are basically the same, they look to similar and make it look un-professional.
My remake of the above business card.
This business card is a little better as it has one centre alignment so its not all over the place, and it has contrasting fonts so it makes it look bolder and you can tell what the most important text, and whats not, it could have been better but i could only use typography to make this better.
How I made it.
I started of by changing the text so it was not so conflicting, i also made the font more italic by using the bottom right button, i changed it to about 7 so it was slightly different.
Here i was aligning all my text to a centre alignment, i was using the ruler tool to make sure it was well aligned this helped as i could see were i had to align it to.

NME cover re-make
This is the finished re-cover
This is the original next to mine.
When creating the boxes for my re-cover I used Object styles to save my object styles, this allows me to save my drop shadow and colour into a style so when i comes to creating the next box, i can just click the style I want and then it puts it onto the new shape.
When creating the text for my magazine cover I used the character styles box to save my text styles so the next time I go to create a font I can just click the style i want and it does it instantly, instead of getting all the options and sizes the same, this saved me time whilst creating this cover.
These are the alignments I used when creating my magazine these really helped to get everything perfectly inline such as the title because with the ruler I could make sure I got the right size text, and it was good for the getting the rectangles in the right places/angles.
While creating the rectangles and font down the left hand side of the page I took the editing boxes down to the side so I could easily access the boxes whilst zoomed in, this helped me getting the right text sizes because I could edited them whilst zoomed in so i got a better view of what I'm doing.
When creating the 'Free Kurt Poster' image in the top corner I got a image of Morgan Freeman and edited his face onto Kurt's face, I did this by cutting out Kurt's face and then putting Morgan Freeman's face inside it and changed the blending layer.
When starting my magazine I added my image I did this by clicking 'file' then 'place' then i pulled he image across the page whilst holding down 'shift' so it doesn't stretch the image.

Camera Manual
Camera Manual
In this part of the course are task was to create a 'Camera Manual' for people starting photography, so i made a nikon camera manual with the main setting on for new photographers
This is my final piece overall i think it went well and i got a good result there are a few things i would change, which would be make it a bit less simple and non unique, also i would change the style of drawing, but apart from that I'm pleased with my final piece, i put my final piece in a 'Flickr slideshow' as it is easier to view and takes less space up on my blog.
Designing/Making
When i was designing what my manual would look like i did a bit of research on white space and some other techniques for creating a manual to create my images i drew them in my sketchbook and scanned them onto my computer, then i took the scan and increased the darkness of the line and got rid of the white and cut and pasted them into my Manual.
This is me glueing my final piece together i used 'PVA' glue to stick it together as it will hold the manual together quite well, it was quite tricky as it leaked over and i had to let it set before doing the next page, so if i was to do something like this again i think i would use a glue stick.
At the last second i changed my background colour to blue because it looked a bit bland and plain so i went on the layer named background and did a colour overlay on it so i could change the colour i think this was a good last minute change
When i was making my Camera Manual i used groups to keep everything tidy on the layers and i named each new layer this was a good help as in my business card .psd i had layers everywhere and it was really hard to find the right layer.
This is a photo of me using the 'Wacom bamboo' this was really useful for correcting bad lines in my drawings as I'm not that good at drawing with pens/pencils.
Here is how i coloured my drawings, i simply did this by double tapping the layer and going on colour overlay and chose the colour i wanted.
Some of my drawings were rough at the edges so what i did is a got the brush tool tweaked some of the setting via the brush presets tab and created this fin lined brush, i went over the lines with my 'Wacom Bamboo' which is a tablet drawing pad that you can get smooth lines out of.
This is the folder i got after i downloaded my font it contains a .ttf which is a True type font format of a file which means if you double click it you will get this pop out of the font and it will say 'install font' then it will install the font into your font dictionary, and then you can access your font on most software.
This is the font i chose for my manual I downloaded it from www.dafont.com, it was a handwritten font the reason i chose a handwritten font is because it makes the manual look more hand made and this was the style i was going for on my manual.
This is a screenshot of section 2 it was in complete at this time and i still had 2 boxes left to fill, which were the description of how to use the manual mode and what it is and the last page.
This is my first page when i was just over halfway done on this page at this stage i was still trying to develop my ideas and expand on them, all i had done here was the front page and a thew descriptive pages, something i would definitely do which i did not do, is get all the scans in before i start the manual because i found when i tried to do work at home, i did not have the scans.
This is the .psd file i downloaded of sir, it was a template in which it had the markings of were each page was going to be.
These 2 photos are the original drawings i did in my sketchbook i just did some simple symbols from the camera such as macro etc.. when i was drawing i noticed i was smudging the penciled drawings and this made it more difficult for me to get the scans into photoshop because when i used the 'Magic Wand' it got rid of the images as well
